Sookkyung Park

When Sookkyung Park lived in South Korea, she established her own arts & crafts studio named Saerom in 1982. The studio specialized in decoupage and stained glass. It was one of the oldest arts & crafts studio in South Korea. She continued her career for about 25 years until she moved to the U.S.A. In 2011. Sookkyung decided to study a new field, of fine art, to challenge genres, and majored in painting and sculpture at the University of Maryland in College Park. She was admitted to Towson University MFA program and currently is a vice president of the Korean Artists Association and a member of the Washington Sculptors Group.

“When I was around 10 years old, I enjoyed seeing the sunset just outside my house. The sunset was so beautiful that its beautifulness could not be described in a few words. That sense of memory and reflection still exists in my heart like a big picture. Focusing on color, shape, similarity, difference, harmony, complexity, and so on is a good reference for guiding to the true meaning of art. Especially, my work is a way of bringing beautiful memories to life by expressing them as color and shape.”
