About the Artist: Self-taught; multidimensional artist Edd Han; hails from Capitol Heights; MD-steps away from the nation's capital. He discovered his love for exploring his creativity in the midst of moving from home to home during his foundational/adolescent years. After experiencing the unexpected assassination of his best friend; Edd decided to fully embrace his inner child and pursue art as a career as a means to escape his environment.

Artist Statement: "Communication is key. Without communicating; it is impossible to attain anything. Food; water; shelter; and entertainment are all attained through some level of interaction with the outside world. While deprived of social engagement; I created my own community by sculpting various multifunctional pieces between Fall of 2020 and Spring of 2021. My work depicts ancestral figures; each with their own flare of personality; with their heads above water; the most essential element of life. If you study history; you will find that a lot of knowledge was lost at sea during the transatlantic slave trade. Entire cultures; generational traditions; washed away. Through my work; I hope to honor my ancestors whose bodies rest at sea and celebrate one of the most captivating aspects of Black Culture today; hair." ~ Edd Han
